Loading Ontologies Into Protégé-2000
Protégé-2000 is a editing tool written in Java. It
should run on any computer with Java version 1.3 installed (note that Mac
OS 9 does not support Java 1.3).
To set up your machine to edit the ontologies in Protégé,
follow these steps:
- (If necessary) Download and install Java 1.3 JRE from Sun
Note: Protégé support of Java 1.4 is still experimental.
- Download and install Protégé
Note: Stanford Medical Informatics requires free registration to
download Protégé.
- Create a working directory for the ontology files and copy all the
files from the appropriate directory (there should be 9 Habronattus
ontology files and 9 (different) files for the loggerhead ontology).
- Start Protege and open the appropriate project file:
- For Habronattus californicus load californicus_b.pprj
- For Loggerhead turtles load Hailman_and_Elowson1992.pprj
The remaining files will be included automatically. The Loggerhead files have been edited using Protégé-2000 version 1.9 and have been
loaded successfully into a beta version of Protégé 2.0.
