[Mesquitelist] Very slow Mesquite

Dear Mesquitelist,
I have a problem running Mesquite on my computer (64 bit, XPx64), latest Java version - it seems to choke on my datasets. When I load a file consisting of a character matrix of 114 species, 12 numeric characters and one tree, the character list takes ages to scroll through, and PDAP plots take extremely long to load. In both cases, the screen is taking a very long time to refresh and sometimes shows just random lines; during that time, I also can't use the mouse or switch to other programs, so the whole computer is
slowed down. I tried installing a higher memory version of Mesquite (512 Mb), but that didn't change anything. This problem is not new to the latest version, I have had it previously as well; however, the problem wasn't there when I first got the computer a couple of years ago. Also, it can't be an issue with the XP installation because I recently re-installed it and it the problem didn't go away.
I can provide a sample dataset and screenshots. Any help would be much appreciated!
Best wishes,
